What are you doing to make changes to better your health? The intention behind Men’s health month is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems as well as promoting early detection and treatment of diseases such as heart disease, depression, and cancer. Physical and mental health are both key players in a healthy lifestyle for men of all ages! Educating yourself on risk factors for common diseases, as well as creating real and sustainable change in your life are the first steps to reclaiming your health.
Changing your diet is daunting at first, as is observing regular eating schedules. Many people skip breakfast, even though it is the most important meal of the day! Having a healthy and filling meal is a great way to start your day and get your brain the power it needs. Having a grab and go option such as overnight oats or a protein bar are great ways to start the day while heading out the door. There have been studies that prove correlation between gut health and mental health- as if we needed another reason to eat well!* Having plenty of good bacteria in your gut will help with digestion and bloating as well. A good focus this month is to start a meal plan incorporating probiotics and reduce empty carbohydrate calories- such as alcohol and fast food.
Another great way to reclaim your health is by making a plan for exercise. Whether it is daily weight training or getting outside for fresh air and a walk, make strides this month for a healthy new routine. Cardiovascular exercise, like going for a walk, is recommended to keep your heart healthy!
